How are Fibroids diagnosed?

Diagnosing fibroids can be difficult if you’re not experiencing symptoms. Routine gynecological exams sometimes result in the discovery of fibroids. What are the symptoms of Fibroids?

Often times women experience no symptoms. If you’re experiencing no symptoms, treatment may not be necessary as the fibroids don’t interfere with normal function or cause abnormal symptoms.

When fibroids do give off symptoms, they can vary. Women with fibroids may experience pain during sex, lower back pains, heavy periods, or feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen. The most serious of symptoms related to fibroids are related to the reproductive system since in some cases, fibroids can interfere with birth, leading to miscarriage, early labor, or even infertility.

How are Fibroids treated?

Fibroids that don’t cause any symptoms may require no treatment and should be left alone. If you’re suffering from symptoms of uterine fibroids, then there are a few treatment options available. Common forms of treatment include pain medication or hormone therapy, such as birth control. Pain medication helps alleviate mild pains associated with fibroids, while hormone therapy controls heavy bleeding caused by fibroids.
